Why Torrent Is Banned In Many Countries

The banning of Torrents was inevitable. All started with the arrest of the owner of one of the biggest torrent sites i.e. Kickass Torrent. The owner Artem Vaulin was arrested in Poland after he was identified by the United States Department of Justice on 20th July 2016. Well, it not like there wasn’t any issues before that, in fact, the owners of “The Pirate Bay” apprehended and actions were taken against them. But Kickass Torrents was the biggest of them all.

After that, almost all the popular torrent sites have been banned by the Governments of different countries around the world. India too has banned all the popular torrent sites. In fact, Google has also taken steps that would ensure that torrents are permanently banned on Google.

But this won’t stop people from visiting Torrents sites and download copyright contents for free. Well, let’s go through some of the reasons due to which torrents are getting banned in many countries.

Reasons for Banning of Torrents

One and the only reason that led to the banning of torrents is the Copyright Issue. Well, I will elaborate on that down below.

The basic reason that led to the banning of torrent sites is that they give away copyright items for free and without any sort of permission. This led to a huge loss for the producers as they made less money than they were supposed to make. The viewers who were supposed to pay money for getting access to these items could get these for free. This was illegal and was considered a crime.

Now, that doesn’t mean that you will be charged with piracy for downloading everything. Suppose that you are downloading free give away Microsoft software. Now that’s something that you can download without falling under the category of piracy.

But you can be charged for downloading the album “Battle Studies” by John Mayer from any torrent site. The primary reason is that it is copyright protected and could land you in jail. But there are different sites where you can get copyright-free material. Just Google this term “Copyright-Free Torrent Sites” and you will be provided with tons of results to choose from. There won’t be any issues with these sites.
